CENI Newsletter — December 2023

December 14, 2023

This year was about reigniting how we work together, and we all added a lot of fuel. Please take this time to celebrate accomplishments, rest, and prepare for more. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!

Yours truly, Lisa McNair

Hokie for a Day

This fall, we successfully hosted eight engaging Hokie for a Day field trips for our local elementary schools. Nearly 400 fifth graders had the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the college experience, gaining insights from students and faculty here at Virginia Tech. The day featured a diverse range of STEM exhibits, ranging from understanding how planes fly to the VTDITC team's demonstration of hip-hop studies, all aimed at igniting curiosity about higher education. Students enjoyed interacting with current college students, sharing lunch at D2 with our Corps of Cadets, and stepping into Lane Stadium for a Q&A session with VT athletes about college sports. As the day concluded, students were encouraged to envision themselves as future college students and provided with college access information. The exhibitor form is open now for spring 2024 Hokie for a Day exhibits. Slots are open until filled.

During their recent visit, the Virginia Tech Game Development Club brought excitement to Floyd County High School. This immersive experience saw club members sharing their insights and showcasing games they had personally programmed. Computer Science students at FCHS had the opportunity to try out these games, fostering a dynamic exchange of knowledge and igniting interest in game development.

FCPS would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the faculty, staff, and students at Virginia Tech who have provided diverse opportunities and significantly impacted our students' growth and positive learning experiences. Here's to another year of meaningful collaboration and shared success!
