Tremayne "Trey" Waller

Tremayne Waller is a dedicated higher education scholar practitioner with extensive experience in graduate student programs, diversity initiatives, and student success strategies. Currently serving as the Director of Graduate Student Programs at Virginia Tech, Tremayne focuses on enhancing engineering diversity and promoting graduate education through innovative programs like A Step to the Doctorate Institute, which he developed in 2019. His role encompasses strategic recruitment, data-driven enrollment management, and fostering relationships with HBCUs and minority-serving institutions.
Prior to Virginia Tech, Tremayne held multiple leadership positions at Cornell University, where he directed the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program and led efforts within the Office of Academic Diversity Initiatives. His work included managing multimillion-dollar budgets, supervising diverse teams, and developing impactful programs. Tremayne also played a key role in fostering diversity in engineering as the Associate Director of Diversity Programs, overseeing recruitment, retention, and mentoring initiatives.
