Luis Borunda

Assistant Professor, Advanced Building Design

Luis Borunda is an architect, researcher, and educator specializing in advanced building design, architectural technology, and inclusive design strategies. His work explores AI-driven design tools, sustainable materials, and computational fabrication methods to address design equity and low-carbon construction challenges. Prior to his role as Assistant Professor of Advanced Building Design at Virginia Tech, he held professional and research appointments in Spain and the U.S., including leading roles in award-winning international projects such as the CaixaForum Valencia Cloud Pavilion and Solar Decathlon Europe. His current research includes collaborations with Meta Reality Labs and community organizations, focusing on AI-Accessibility tools for visually impaired individuals. Luis is a licensed architect in Spain and has received recognitions from the International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures (IASS), Colegio de Arquitectos de Madrid (COAM), and the Arquia Foundation.
