Matt Dunleavy

Dr. Dunleavy is the Director of Grants, Innovation, and Partnerships with Higher Education for Montgomery County Public Schools. As a principal investigator, he has secured multiple grants totaling $17.6 million from organizations including the U.S. Department of Education, the National Science Foundation, the Virginia Department of Education, and the Intel Foundation. Prior to his current role, he served at Radford University from 2007 to 2024, where he held positions ranging from faculty member to Executive Director of the Vinod Chachra IMPACT Lab. From 2006 to 2007, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in learning technologies at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he also directed the Handheld Augmented Reality Project (HARP). Dr. Dunleavy earned his Ph.D. in Educational Research, Statistics, and Evaluation from the University of Virginia in 2006. Before pursuing his graduate studies, he taught English as a Second Language as a Peace Corps volunteer in Cameroon, Central Africa, and later independently in Taiwan, Republic of China.
